JUDO - GOLDEN SCORE RULE

1. When the time allotted for the contest ends and the scores/penalties are equal, the result of the contest shall be decided by a 'Golden Score'.

2. The time clock will be reset as if for a new contest.

3. Any scores shown on the scoreboard will be cancelled.

4. The referee will restart the contest in the normal way. There will be no rest period between the end of the original contest and the start of the 'Golden Score' contest.

5. The first score or the first penalty awarded will decide the contest.

6. The contest ends immediately there is a score (or penalty). For example if a player is being held (osaekomi) and the hold continues for ten seconds - a koka is scored and the contest ends. The competitor has won by a 'koka'.

7. If the 'Golden Score' extension contest goes the full distance without a score (or penalty) then the result will be decided by the referee and two judges, who will indicate the winner by raising the appropriate coloured flag. This will be indicated on the contest sheet as a 'Hantei' win.

Teams

1. The teams are the final part of the competition programme.

2. The team event will comprise of male teams with five players and female teams with three players.

3. Teams must be made up of players from the same National Federation or nationality. One player who would not normally be eligible for inclusion for the team may be a "guest".

4. Team "names" should reflect the origin of the players.

5. Teams may name one substitute player and this must be declared when team entries are formally submitted. This player will be entitled to receive a medal should the team be successful even if he or she was not actually required to fight.

6. Once a player is replaced he/she cannot participate in the team event any further.

7. Teams must always line up in weight order with the lightest player starting first and remain in this same order throughout the entire event.

8. When the male team is competing it must always have a combined age equal to or in excess of 200 years. There is no such age requirement for the female team.

9. A substitute may be introduced into a team at any stage before the formal bow to start a match, provided the referee has been duly notified and the substitute has been properly recorded on the official entry sheet at the time the entry was submitted. The substitute must line up in the proper weight order and in the case of the male team the combined age must still add up to 200 years or more.

10. Number of teams per country will be announced at the beginning of the tournament.

11. Medals will be available for first, second and third places.

12. Team contest duration will be 3 minutes irrespective of actual age of any player.

13. Any player who is disqualified by Hansoku make for the type of action which endangers their opponent or exhibits unsporting behaviour will be eliminated from the team event and in this case their place cannot be taken by the substitute

14. Results of the team matches will be based firstly on greatest number of individual contest wins. If this is equal then the team with the most points will be the winner. If this is still equal then a random selection will be made from amongst the drawn contests and the result will be determined by this contest re-match including the "Golden Score" rule. If for any reason a player involved in a draw cannot fight again then the other team will be awarded the match.
